ASM skimmer mod

WOW!! what a difference.... I have an ASM G-3 skimmer with sedra 5000 pump, been reading about mods for that model and did the needle wheel mod.

Bubbles are quadrupled and in 6 hours the cup has filled 1/2 way. & before I was emptying it about once a week. It is pulling some dark green stuff out of the water at a rapid rate, think I better slow it down or it might run over during the night:eek:

Time to drill your cup and have it empty into something you can throw out. :)

What exactly did you do to it?

Hmmm, another interesting mod:D

I took the needle wheel (impeller) and cut the pins off of it and then attached a 3M type scrubber with 2 zip ties and what a difference.

Ahhh... I see.

I have some of the spiffy material used for this (can't remember the name) that I got from Angela a while back... I think I need to try it. I'm a little nervous about it (I don't like the thought of cutting the needles off of the wheel), but I need to give it a shot!

Thanks for sharing!

yea, I was a little nervous till I looked at the impeller and seen where 3 of the little spikes were already broken off :)

Hay you going to do my other pump too? If that works it may make the other skimmer worth something I may have to look for all the parts now.

wow that is a long thread I will have to give you a pump when I c u Your two things are in but the chiller should be here any day.

Enkamatt 4 is the name of the stuff I have. I still have some folks in the club are welcome to. Just shoot me a PM. My ASM pulls way more stuff now. Very thick junk but I have it skimming drier since I hate emptying the cup! I also have the recirculating mod fed by a MJ1200 so the water is in the chamber for a longer dwell time.

I need to mod mine... I've had that stuff for like 4 or 5 months now...

Man... Christmas break is ALMOST here! My tank is getting all kinds of modifications... I guess the skimmer had just as well, too! :) I think I'll do it when I take everything out to redo my plumbing and such...

Anyway... I'm just babbling now...

Sorry!
