Asterina Species???

I have many in my tank, But i have noticed that my corilline is lose from the glass, eversince notice dozens of them. I think it is better to see all sorts of life in a tank then none at all. So i think there great but not at large numbers.

Ps . My name is ricky , good luck

I have several like that in my 40g and they seem to be harmless detrivores. Looks like they spend most of their time on the glass -- never seen one on a coral. FWIW, I have read that there may be several different similar species, one or two of which may be harmful, but those are rare.

I have had those in almost all of my reef tanks. I know they eat coralline because I can see the white spots where they have been. I have blamed them for eating one of my Discosoma shroom because it was near it when it disappeared. I have heard that there are types that prey on sps and zoa. IMO remove them when you see them.

Mine are all over the Glass,Rock, SB, every place i look i see them.Really neat to watch, but i know for a fact thay do eat the coralline see mine getting lose on the glass and floating away. I am going to start picking them off and doing something with them lol lol lol.

" Give them to my cat or something to play with"

I've been pulling them out and drying them... I don't know exactly what for but I have an empty wine bottle filling up with them.

I had hundreds in my tank, and they do feed on the coraline, but I have no issue with them bothering my coral. I added a Harlequin shrimp and he has made short work of them. Once they are gone I will have to buy stars to feed the shrimp.....

Loralie, buy stars to feed them? why can't you just feed your shrimp regular food instead of stars.
HS are obligate star feeders - no stars, they starve

Harlequin shrimp feed on starfish solely.....nothing else, but they are my favorite shrimp

Hmm... I see. Very interesting picky eater. Reminds me of my Red Sc. Blenny, very picky as well. Do you have a picture of your H. Shrimp.
