Hi

Does anybody know how to irradicate an Asterina Star fish problem, without using Harlequin Shrimps.

Does any body know of a fish which will eat them.

Why would you want to get rid of them? They are harmless.

Within reason, of course. It's not often that you will get some that eat coral tissue, but if you do that's another story.

Why Remove

Why Remove

Hi

Thanks for your comments.

To answer why remove, they is not doubt what so ever, they do indeed eat encrusting purple algae, and when they get to huge numbers they have a significant impact.

So I need to remove, don't ask me the name of the fish because I ddon't know, but, it eats harlequin shrimps, I seen it eat one whole.

So I need to find something whicch eats the star fish, I suspect it will have to be something like a Harlequin tusk or perhaps a trigger.

Suggestions ?

This may just have been mine, but i had a few of those at one time. then I got 2 juvi clarkii clowns. About a month after getting them, i stopped noticeing my asterinas. I found one on the front glass, and tried to show my g/f what they looked like, when one of my clowns came up and sucked it off the glass.

i have 2 different species of these tiny stars. one eats on my frogspawn and the other just seems to eat algae of the glass. as far as something eating them, the only thing i know of is the harliquin shrimp.

have heard that if you have a good population of these that the harlequin can live off of them and achive a balance in the tank.
