Astrea snails keep dying?

Hello,

I recently got a BioCube 8 for Xmas, I've been out of the hobby for a few years, but I successfully had a 55g in the recent past (been 2 years). I set it up and let it cycle for 5 weeks with the cocktial shrimp (using IO mix), params are as follows:
PH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite <0.3
Salinity 1.024

For modding the tank, I removed the bio balls, put in live rock rubble and some filter floss, cut the overflow to flow more and replaced the stock pump with a MJ600.

I slowly added about 10 lbs of live rock and did 2 water changes. I am currently in week 8, params read steady.

I added 1 yellowtail damsel to start, then a few days later, added 4 blue leg hermit crabs, 1 turbo snail, 2 astrea snail. Over the next few days, the 2 astrea snails died, but everything else was fine. I replaced the 2 astrea snails again with 2 more (same type). 1 died the next day, other was fine until 2 weeks later and it died as well. Turbo snail is healthy and always on the move. Everything was acclimated properly.

Any ideas as to why only astrea snails keep dying? Everything seems to be fine.

As to what I plan to have in the tank, I'm not sure yet, but i'd like everything to be stable before making up my mind.

I didn't just throw the snails into the tank when I go home, I slowly did the water exchage over a period of time etc.

i had a problem like this twice. once was beacuse there was not enough for them to eat the tank was super clean and was just started up and second was beacuse of a nitrate problem.

good luck.

I don't like astreas for the simple reason that they can't flip themselves back over if they tip. I got sick of having to turn them back over all the time. Maybe this is what happened to yours? Especially seeing that your turbo is fine.
