Astrophotography and RAW files

I have a bunch of images from last weekend that I shot as both RAW and JPEG; question is, do I have the information in a RAW to properly pull the color out of the deep exposure or am I still going to have to layer it?

I feel slightly awkward asking but this is my first experience with a RAW file in the 4 months of owning a DSLR.

Thanks guys

The RAW file is what the camera used to create the JPG. It has all of the information that the sensor recorded. The JPG is created by applying the white balance, color space and other user and metering settings to the RAW file.

YOU can take the RAW file tweak the settings as you see fit to produce the output you desire instead of relying on the assumptions the camera makes based on what it metered and what mode it was in.
