i've been runing 2 96 watt pc atinic bulbs one 420nm and one 420/460 cmbo over my tank to complement my 250watt halide but having added some led's i'm going to do away with one of the atinic bulbs and i can't decide wich one to keep i prefer the color of the 420 but have read somewear that the 460 can be more benifical for some corals but not shure why, so can anyone tell me the differance in these two bulbs other than the fact that the 460 looks much brighter and the 420 looks darker and produces more "glow" or blacklight type effect.

Both are beneficial, one is just not as visible as the 460nm because of the spectrum. I used the 420nm/460nm with great luck way back when I still ran PC's.

If you are going to use the standard blue LEDs, keep the 420nm. The blue LEDs will hit the 460nm spectrum but they won't really hit the 420nm area.

I can actually get some 420nm LEDs if you want some. They are non UV and benefit corals and far as R&D shows right now.

well after a few days trying each one i've decided to keep the 420nm bulb, it seems to work with the led's better than the 460 mainly becouse i don't like the way the 460 seems to wash out the florecence that the royal blues add the effect of the blues is much more visable with the 420nm than the 460
