ATO choices...

Hey guys,

I have a 50g tank in it's beginning stages. I have a mixed reef of about 10 corals, 5lps,4sps and 1 softy.

Was looking into picking up an ato since it will not only reduce the maintenance, but also highly stabilize my levels. This would let me dose calc, alk and keep sg stable.

Main question: Can I pickup a Tunze Nano Osmolator Universal Water Level Regulator 3152 instead of the Electronic Osmolator Tunze 3155?

The nano is about half the price, and am wondering if I need to spend 300$..

I've had the 3155 for over a year, great unit with no issues. Worth the money. Just look up the features to see if it's worth it to you spending the extra.

I installed the Tunze 3152 on my 30g tank yesterday. So far i like it. I think for bigger tanks the 3155 is a better choice. The 3152 will only run for 3 minutes before it goes into failsafe. I believe the 3155 can be adjusted all the way to a 10 minute run time and you can also adjust the flow rate of the top off pump too. 3155 is double the price of the 3152, but you get more bells and whistles.

Using the 3152 nano on my 80G right now, I transferred it over from my biocube(until I buy the 3155), but it keeps up with evap no problem.

I also have the 3155. It's a great unit and does exactly what it needs to do with a few built in fail safes. There's even an addon plug adapter if you have a basement/garage water station and need a stronger pump.

This would let me dose calc, alk and keep sg stable.

It seems like you're describing 2 part dosing here. ATOs are not suitable for this purpose because they only dispense fluid from one reservoir and 2 part solution can't be mixed together. But it can be use with kalk (limewater) solution.

The idea was the ability to dose Kalkwasser, would this not work to maintain those levels stated?

Ive been using the smart ATO had serious issues with different parts going backside up . finally got a complete system working and has been trouble free for 5 months or so. i only use it for ro with trace. dont know how it would go with limewater.
