ATO feed

Can my ATO pump feed in anywhere in my sump? My sum is like this:

Skimmer-Return-Fuge

I would place my float sensor in the return section, but can I have the water come in my skimmer section?

my understanding is that it doesn't matter where the water gets pumped into as long as it gets there

Does not matter where you put the water. You are right to put the float switch in the return pump area. That is where the water will go up and down. I have the water going to my skimmer area.
