ATO Setup help

I'm trying to setup my ATO w/ float switch

When I go into the Probe/Sensor controls and I select level, I get a communication error and the program closes.

Any reason why? and what I can do to fix it would be appreciated.

Hiya

The only provisional thought that comes to mind is that maybe you have the level sensor connected to the temperature port. They are the same DIN sockets and easily confused, i have done it myself in haste before,

Give that a go if not come back and let us know

It says Level on top and temp on bottom,

The temp is working, would the temp work if it was plugged into the wrong port?

Level is the top port, yes. so you have that correct.

If temp was in the wrong port you would get an alarm.

So assuming this is a GHL float switch, what communication error do you get.

Best to email us at sales@aqua-digital.com we can then converse better. or speak by phone tomorrow.

Regards
Michael

It just says communication error and then the program shuts down.

Would it make a difference what version software I'm using?
I'm using 3.08

and yes I'm using the GHL float switch

Nope will not make a difference as to what version software you are using, although there is no harm in updating to V4.0 making sure you save your settings first.

Drop me an email tomorrow and we can walk through this, if still no success.

Best wishes
Michael

I am gathering a list of the necessary parts to automate my top-off water supply. What is the difference between the optical sensor and the float switch? One better than the other for this type of application?

Here is what I want to do, when the level goes down, activate a socket where a solenoid is connected to, opening the flow from my RO/DI supply.

Thanks!

The optical does not need as much maintenance and is more snail safe.

With the float you do need to give it a good clean regularly, not saying you dont with the optical, just more often.

And with the optical if a wandering snail decides to take up residence it will have little effect (depending on the size of snail of course)

You will need for optical

1 x Optical
1 x Base assy
1 x S12 holder

for float

1 x Float switch
1 x Base assy
1 x S8 holder

This is the holder that attaches the sensor to the base unit

That is the same photo as above, this is a library picture showing the fully built assembly

They are supplied to the retailer as part items

parts numbers

PL-LF-Base
PL-LF-S12
PL-LF-S8

This makes up what is in the photo

A retailer normally will put the required parts together for you, knowing from your order whether you require an S8 or an S12.

But the holders are sold seperately from the base unit so people can upgrade or add sensors according to their needs.

Let me know whether you want Float or optical and whether you want two or one sensor and i will put down the exact parts you require

I'm having the same problem as jpduton. When I select "level" in the control software (ver. 3.08) I get a communication error and the program closes. I'm using GHL sensors (1 float, 1 optical). I have them connected to the Level 1&2 jack with a splitter.

Guessing you are running different versions of firmware to desktop software, please install matching pairs, V4.0 with V4.0 or 3.08 firmware with V3.08 desktop.

This is what jpduton had.

I seem to have both - am I correct in my understanding that funtionally they are the same?

Is the picture just an example or is there a reason for setup?

So example would be range between on and off?

I am wanting a constant level - one sensor, then setup in software? Electronic ATO is 100% new to me, I am having to revamp my entire setup and thinking here.
