I have a full size ATO and I've replaced the pump. I have problem. As soon as I hook up the pump the lights go off on the controller and it doesn't work. If I disconnect the pump the yellow needs water light comes back on? What can I do?

This is generally caused by either badly damaged wiring to the pump (corroded connector and wiring) or a circuit board that is damaged from past long term connection to a dead pump or badly corroded wiring. I would first try cutting back the wiring to the pump to clean shiny copper and a new connector and if that does not solve it, the controller has a dead transistor and is not repairable, we could discount a new one but a controller is about 3/4ths the cost of a complete unit.
