attaching clams

I've never heard of anyone attatching a clam with glue or anything else mechanicaly. If the cam still has its bysal gland or bysal threads it should attatch by itself withing a couple of days. It can also be better to have it attatch to a rock down on the sand bed and then move the rock and the clam up when you want to.

is there a way to attach clams to live rock

Some clams will just not attach and that is fine. Most Tridacna croceas will attach because they have the largest byssal in the Tridacnid family. Some of the larger clams will not attach as they depend on their weight to hold them in place.

Place the clam on a piece of lr that you can move. I introduced a Crocea to my tank a few weeks ago and actaully picked out and bought a piece of lr specifically for the clam. Within 2 days its bysal threads had started attaching to the rock. I picked up the clam just to move it a tad and the rock lifted up right along with it.

I think the Tridacna forum needs a sticky about "Where to put my clam?" It can tell people about putting the clam on a flat piece of LR and then being able to move it around and stuff etc..

but Grimm what would we do then:p

Haha True...I never thought about being outsourced () : )
I can see the PMs now "The services of mbbuna, Peabody, Barry/Berry, and grimmjohn et al...are no longer wanted...lurk somewhere else for the love of God."

I guess everyone could always argue about PCs and MHs () : )

Another sticky about PM, lighting, how to select a clam, pyramid snails, and clam safe fish and we're gonna have to hang in the armpit of RC..the *shiver* Cephalopod forum haha...maybe Clams Direct could get a sponsor forum or something () : )

Cheers,

grimmjohn

Ya know..technically..shouldn't the Ceph forum actually be in the "Tridacnid Clams and other Mollusks forum?" Otherwise shouldn't it be "The Bivalve Forum."

Not that we want their stinking kind..but anyway () : )

I guess we get some Gastropod stuff in here too..but most of that goes into Reef Discussion or New to the Hobby
