Attaching Colt Coral

I got a small piece of a colt coral from the LFS this weekend that was not attached to any rock, and was wondering the best way to get it attached to a rock. I have it wedged in a crevice in a piece of rock, but it's already come out of there once. Any advice on how to get it to take to a rock?

I am not sure if your rock-scape will allow for this, but I used a small pice of rock to "prop" a frag I had against a larger pice of rock (where I wanted it to attach) in the tank. After about 5 days I moved the small piece of rock away and it was in attached.

For leathers, I usuallt find a base rock with some sort of V like section cut out of it (looking kinda like Pacman for a visual). I fit a toothpick across the V (snap off extra ends). Then put glue where the toothpick will be, place the cutting in the V and put the toothpick in the glue. Once it starts to expand, it should hold itself in place (may need a bit of glue to make sure it is held in good once it expands. Once it attaches, snap off the toothpick and viola. Glue is only for the toothpick (not the cutting);). HTH

gflat,

I really like that idea, thanks for the advice. I had seen the 'tooth pick method' mentioned but no explanation of what it was. I want this coral to do well, the LFS kind of threw it in as an extra with my purchase, but when I got it in the tank and it opened up I decided it's my favorite find of the weekend.

That's a nice piece. Use the toothpick method just kep an eye on it. Colts are real bad about wanting to melt away from the toothpick. I have fought with some cuttings only to end up wedging it into a rock. Then again I have had the toothpick method work really well. It all depends on the general health of the cutting.

leathers and colts attach differently.. leathers are 10 times easier then colts cuz they dont slim as much as the colts... the only method that worked for me was the garf method... i tried the toothpick and the fishing line with a needle, and combos of glue and everything and the garf method was the best.... do a search on there site and they are most helpful
