Attaching coral to rock - without glue or putty!?!

I'm looking into different ideas of attaching coral bases to rock. This has always been my least positive experience of keeping sps and has made me re-scape numerous times, almost throw in the towel due to swaying and falling acros.
Anyway I have ~35lbs of branch rock coming, I'm not overly fond of using superglue/putty permanent methods, I work in the defence force and can get sent away for bits here and there so there's no 100% guarantee of survival, the odd thing can perish in my absence.
Branch rock is incredibly hard to drill large diameter holes in, crud can collect in the bottom of these holes.
I will be making my own bases from KZ Speed Glue and aragonite sand like: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1422135895.261051.jpg
I have thought about glueing frag plug based to the branch rock, and for each base I make, leave an impression to slot the new base onto, this could need a little putty/glue as corals grow and get heavier, and could still topple over.
The second option and one I'm leaning more towards is to drill a small ~3mm hole in the branch rock, glue a nylon screw in each hole. Each base I make I could try and leave the nylon screw impression in, or simply drill it once it's dry/sturdy enough. I think with the smaller diameter and with enough length this will be far less likely for things to bobble around and tip over.
Opinions and experience most welcome!

It's my experience that glue will break away if you need to pull coral bones unless it's been overgrown by the coral and even then, it generally will release. I think glue or epoxy is basically a given for mounting anything. Regarding your second method, you could simply use acrylic dowels. Not sure a screw is necessary. Pre-drilling is probably best, but as you said, can fill up with crud or even be difficult to find after a while.

I just went thru my tank and mounted everything that wasn't already mounted. Yeah I was derelict in mounting them too. Had corals fall over during the night only to find a fractured branch or losing tissue from being buried in the sand. Now everything is securely mounted. :)
