Attaching Mushrooms

Put them in a tupperware with holes or some kind of cover so they get a lot less flow than the main tank (but they still need enough to not go stagnant). Lay them on top of the rubble rock, they should attach if everything (params) is good in the tank.

For my ricordia I used a yogurt cup, small rock rubble and some wedding veil material, its been two weeks im about to open it up today to check the progress.

It takes a while, but you can just put some rock rubble near them in the display tank and wait for them to attach to it.

Here it is, I took the veil off, two weeks without a piece of the mouth and its attached.

My one problem with the rubble rock cup is I have very little space to put a cup. I guess if I do one shroom at a time in a small cup it should work out. As far as the rubber band I tried that before and the shroom just split and I had two pieces floating around.

I use a shower caddy for a temporary frag container. They have holes in them so they get plenty of flow and suction cups to hold it on the side of your tank as close to light as you want. This isn't a real good picture, but you get the idea. I put a little rubble in the bottom of it and in no time I have a good frag.

I used an old breeder box made of mesh material and hung it inside my tank and put some rubble. Worked like a charm.

I stick a toothpick through them and rubberband the toothpick to the rock. Very easy and allows for attachment to already made rock piles.

Pulled my three small/med/large rics out of the shot glass w/ rubble they were sitting in last night. The small/large already grabbed hold but the medium wanted nothing to do with the rubble, so I stuck a toothpick through it... :eek2: and then glued the toothpick to the LR the other two were attached to. I have the three of them sitting on my return pump in my rear chamber because I was scared to put them in the main tank yet for fear of them floating away. Woke up this morning, so far so good, it didn't melt away! I was worried because the medium one is only about almost dime size so the toothpick made a pretty big hole, I made sure not to go through the mouth. Hopefully all goes well, thanks for the tip!

Great idea on the shower caddy. I have a little mesh hanger from PetSmart and it clogs up the mesh and is a pain. I will try this next time around.

another idea is drill holes over a piece of pvc pipe and put the rock on the bottom of it and a piece of mesh over that and rubber band the entire configuration

I stand a small clayy flower pot up with enough ruble rock to cover the bottom and and drop the detached shroom in. In a couple days it's attached to something. Every once in a while it's the pot :). In that case you can either peel it off and try again or break the pot and use it like a frag plug.

The only qualm I have against the container (in my case shot glass) in the main tank is it tends to collect detritus and the CUC never got to it. It worked, partly but in the future I'm going to use the toothpick method or a much much more open, shallow container.
