Attention Stand Makers

We made this stand to hold alot of weight but i think it would be ok without the middle brace in the front...leave the back in place. The stand is built with 2x4 the top 2x4 is 48inch and the one of the sides was cut to let the entire 2x4 fit in so it is not just nailed in the side. i am i think a 75 gallon is about 800 lb full of water...then about 100lb of sand, 100lb of rock and about 40 or 50 for the halides and some PVC.

i have having a new sump and refuge built by Sean at spaquatics.com and would like to be able to get the most out of it.

all the angles i could think of. I have seen a alot of pictures online of stands for 100 gallon plus tanks with stands that do not have the middle piece well at le
ast not in the front.

thanks

matt

If the front top 2x4 is solid the whole length of the tank I think you would be ok. If not grab a 2x6 or another 2x4 and screw the two together. Double up ;)

the stand on my 75 doesnt have a brace in the back or center, My corners are 2x4' at 90 degress though and i have 3/4 in. birch ply. what do you have covering the sides of it?

One detail many commercial stands miss: Make sure you have a GOOD paint job and sealed for protection. When the paint begins to wear, especially on the doors, how are you going to repaint it with a reef tank sitting on it?

(By the way, I like the peg board. You might also want to consider some accessible small shelves for storing food, additives, etc. With planning, the shelves could also reinforce the stand.)

i like the shelve idea...my sump/refuge is going to fill all that being 45x17x17 but i am going to be adding a dj power strip somewhere and label..return, skimmer blah blah blah
