August meeting

colors and textures
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, August 15. I would like to continue the tank tour with south county (Rohnert Park and Petaluma) tanks, ending in a bbq meeting at my house in Petaluma.

There will of course be a raffle. I will coordinate raffle stock acquisitions with our new Treasurer. Plus my ORA Nathans Green Millepora has grown to the point where I can easily frag a nice piece to give back to the club.

Which of our south county members are up for showing off their tanks that day?

Ken,

Leaving on a fishing trip for a few days so I wil have to talk my bosses into leting me have a Saturday off when I get back. I will let you know when I can. My 55 gal isn't to impressive but it holds water:D

Now it's time to through some flies at some trout...Craig.

If your boss gives you a hard time, have him call me. I'll explain the critical nature of your presence. :)

Good luck with fish! My oldest and I floated the Yellowstone in Montana over the 4th of July and caught some nice trout. I had numbers but she had quality - an 18" brown and a 16" rainbow, both very beautiful, chubby, healthy fish. I also rescued some members of a family whose raft had overturned in swift current and were stranded on unstable log jams in the middle of the current. It was very exciting day overall!

Just leave a key to your place under a mat. We won't make too big a mess, really! ;)

If Reef Bass and others agree I think we should hold off on the frag swap until next meeting since it is tough on frags to ride around on a tank tour.

Yes, that makes a lot of sense Owen, thanks. Although at the moment it's not much of a tank tour with only one stop!

If you guys don't want to do a tank tour (imho, one "maybe" response after a couple days is not demonstrating much interest), let me know and I'll see if I can arrange a speaker or something at my house instead.

haha I'm in Petaluma and we can do the stop on a Saturday at my place I'm on Petaluma west side....but my tank is in the bedroom and the GF is not to big on ppl coming over for that"¦"¦. but she will be at work so bring your friends and don't leave a big mess. haha
Also for all you deer hunters the A-Zone rifle season will be open on that weekend so this is a hard call for me...but i will do the tank tour and we should take pictures this time.....I nominate Craig or Ken for their amazing photo skills.

Like Craig said about his tank, mine is nothing special but it holds water!....but the 180 bow front that is empty is impressive so the trip to my house will be worth it for that.

PS: I know Rob lives in RP and i heard he has a really nice tank but I don't know if he is in town.....not to volunteer him or anything
:D

Also, since we are stopping by my place and I have the big water system on my back porch anyone who wants free RO/DI water can have some. I have 45 gallons with 0 TDS. But you must bring your own bucket. This will at least save someone like Mike with a small tank a trip to the store.

Thanks Shane. I'm ok with your volunteering Rob. :) I wonder what Rob thinks?

Anyone else? We have 3 Petaluma tanks so far (Craig, Shane, myself) and one maybe RP tank.

I'd be happy to give a talk on reef tank photography at the end of the tour if people are interested.

please do i've always wanted to ask you about that, I'll bring my camera too and maybe you can give me some pointers.

Unfortunately I will be in Laguna Beach the weekend of the meeting. Does anyone know of a good coral store in that area?

you, and several others should enter some photos here
Steve's Digicams you might win a little something.

OK, what's this with being volunteered? Folks, it is OK with me if everyone stops by. I actually live in Cotati so it will be right on the way to Petaluma. I hope those of you who are juicers can make it past all of the bars in town. Perhaps a little support. I am in New Hampshire for another week (three total!) and will be home next weekend and have 5 days to get everything in order to do my first motorcycle road race at Sear's Point. That gives me a week to get the tank looking good for everyone. I hope my wife has been keeping up on it. If you are into softies, I do have a pretty nice aquarium. I will be happy to pull/chop off anything for people while we are there. Don't think there will be a problem with them sitting in a container for the duration of the visit/BBQ. I also have a couple of ponds for those interested. I will check back in soon.
Sorry I haven't been at the last meetings. Have been on the road for work and had scheduling conflicts.

Hey all back from the Upper Sac and talked to the bosses today and switched my days off so I am a go for the meeting and tour. Still convincing the wife but she said if I finish painting the room with the tank it is a go, so I will do it!

Ken if it helps I live on Rainier Ave close to Sonoma Mountain Parkway.:)

Craig, watch it. I have heard that the ammonia from latex paint can get into your tank if the room is not well ventilated while curing. Don't know if this is a wife's tale but don't want to find out the hard way either!

Because we're doing a tank tour and that could mean time in hot cars for unhappy corals, we won't be doing a frag swap this meeting. September meeting for sure.

We will be doing a raffle.

Rob,

Thanks for the warning I may borrow a fan from work and I will keep the slider open while I am painting. Think the AC would help or just blow bad fumes around?

Thanks again.
