i put together an aussie acan group buy for the Richmond club, and we finally had a big meet this past weekend to raffle things off. things turned out pretty well IMO for what turned out to be about $25/frag.

got them through a connection on that "other reef forum"....lol

although, i don't think he has enough for another group buy at the moment, so you'll have to wait until he gets another shipment....sounds like he gets in 1 shipment of 2 or 3 boxes every 3 months or so. no clue on the next shipment...as his father just passed away.

they were actually priced at around $40/frag, but ended up at $50/frag due to shipping, but with all the freebies he included there were enough for 2 frags per 1 ticket...i.e. $25/frag. (in order to make it 2 frags per 1 ticket i did have to cut 3 or 4 in half as they were more like small colonies).

there were only 2 or 3 ultra frags, about 10 A grades, and the rest were B grades. still a pretty good deal though IMO.

people at the meet were really excited, most of them have never seen an acan as the Richmond LFS *never* bring any in that are for sale. of course that may change after what they saw...knowing there is now a local demand for them...lol

i got sort of a frag pack, so i knew what i was getting and it was separate from the group buy, but i just had them shipped at the same time to save money.

but we had 5 people go in on it for a total of 10 frags (not including me), and we ended up with about 20 frags after i made some cuts so everyone could get in on an equal amount of freebies. due to their cost, i had to get payments before they were ordered.

I am new to the website and this is actually my first post. Someone from UA referred me to this forum. If you guys get a group order together, I would certainly be interested.

Invincible is a no show on the bulk buy.

jas12,
It is not a smart move to jump into acans for a newbie. Just on the fact that you shouldn't place corals in a new set up. Also Acan are or can be high dollar and for 0 experience you don't readly want to drop that kind of cash only to loose them.
My 2c to you would be start off very slow. There are enough of us out here with free starter corals.
Oh and wellcome to the club and hope to see you at a meet.

i gave turbois the info if you want to look into a aussie acan group buy. but i think he was mainly interested in acans for himself and not other people... (coral hog.... ;) )
