Aussie Acros

Absolutely beautiful tank! What is your lighting and distance from lamps to your main layer of SPS? It seems to me a pretty big distance between light source and corals, but color is well maintained.

This tank really make me believe that in order to achieve best overall looking of an SPS tank (say the best FTS look), one should really go mimic and just keep your top 1 or 2 colony from each color and give them enough space to grow and show off - given you don't have a monster tank.

But it is tough, people become 'greedy' when they are really addicted.

I keep coming back to this post and I cry every time! Why can't we see more corals like that here in the States :(

I thought we can see/get most of them in LSF/online retail/or other reefer's tank.:)

Beautiful Regal too! Love the odd mis-bar on the side!

Yes it is pretty common I also have a colony just a little smaller than Daryns. Not the best photos but you get the idea.

How long have you had the SS? Would love some specs on your tanks and lighting. Just picked up a colony of Strawberry Shortcake and would like to keep it looking nice

Mine has been in my tank for around 4 months now. I have a 30" cube with a 400watt 12k reeflux, 4x24watt t5 (2xati blue+, 2xKZ new gen 2xtunze 6105, deltec apf600 and I use 2 part along well dosing tropic marin mineral salts.

I have found the SS is very yellow in high light and a little more green when in lower light. It looks great both ways but I quite like the look of it in the medium to high light.

Wow, awesome growth and colour. :eek2:

you guys can get coral from all over the world but we can only get local coral. A lot of our nicest coral is exported and we never even to get to see them, esp acan & chalice, we can not get rainbow acan or any of the nice chalice in aus as all exported.

As what? 1" overpriced frags? :)

Nothing overpriced about them. It is what the market is willing to pay. If they weren't selling at that price, the cost would come down. A HUGE part of the price of Aussie corals here in the States is the freight to get them here. Have you priced out a plane ticket to Australia lately? Ok, imagine how much for a pallet or a cargo container, then add charges for CITES permits, factor in any DOA's, and a markup for the importer, wholesaler, and retailer......

Trust me, there are plenty of these Strawberry Shortcake colonies coming in, it is just the hot coral right now. As more people start to grow them, they will come down in price.
