Aussie War Coral

Hey guys, I bought a favites pentagona frag a few weeks ago and it seems to be doing pretty well. It has completely covered the plug now, but there seems to be a bit of gray stripe area on one side of it that was already there. First of all, is gray normal on this coral? It doesn't appear to be getting any more gray...

Secondly, is it necessary to feed these? I've read mixed opinions on whether it's essential or not so I thought I'd reach out and ask for your experiences. I have a 29 gallon nano that I don't really want to overwhelm with excessive feeding, so I would rather not feed the war coral if at all possible... Let me know, thanks!

IMO war coral should be fine w/o feeding if you light it properly. I still add some "Reef Chili" to my whole tank every other day though. The only corals that have to have spot feeding are Non-Photosynthetic corals.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by a grey stripe. My war coral is grey/red with green eyes or mouths. I do occasionally loose a mouth but they grow back over.

If you are talking about a war coral it's normal that there are some blue/grey areas on it, that's how they look. You can get a reverse war coral as well that has more grey with the red/purple flesh being the less dominant color.

Of course pictures will verify.

I have that marbling on mine and love it . I could have got another piece with out the bluish grey splashes but felt they gave the coral more character.
As for feeding , I have not fed mine at all but also have not seen much growth either so maybe it would help. I also have mine in a 29g tank . I have changed my stock biocube lights to led's and have seen a big difference in the eyes. the are getting much larger and greener and I do think I am seeing a little more growth on the edges but it is still a little early to tell for sure.

nice coral as for feeding i feeed all my corals. i see a difference in growth when i feed and the other is color. the colors seem to pop alot more when i feed. i use fauna marine acan/zoa dust and the lps pellets i also use the red candy bar cyclopeez
