I got this war coral a few days ago, it came from a lfs and it looked like this when i got it home. i assume it looked like this at the store too, it was in a big table and it was in the middle, so it was hard to really inspect. i was wondering if theres anything i can do for it to maybe help it regrow? its under 4 T5 lights, and my water is ok. my calcium is high and my alkalinity is 8.4, and my magnesium is like 1600 which is also high. I cant seem to get parameters down. I did a water change and that dropped my alkalinity from 12.6 down to 8.4. also, my ph is holding at 8.0. i cant get it to rise any either. (i tried opening a window)

Your parameters are fine, it's a really hardy coral as far as those go, the only thing is doesn't like is too much light which I think is the issue. Put it on the sandbed and give it a little shade so it can acclimate to your tank and you should be good.

That looks great! You should try feeding it if it opens up a bit at night, they love ground up pellet food :)

alright. thanks a lot for the help! ill have to get some of that pellet food tomorrow. any kind in particular or just any kind of pellet?

+1 on the war coral liking pellet food. I drop a bunch of pellets on mine a couple times a week. Sweeper tentacles are always out. It looked like yours when I brought it home, took several weeks for it to look fully healthy.

I think they make pellet food for LPS corals now, but I've used spectrum for a while since I have it for fish. I think just about any pellet food should be fine, will switch to the LPS pellets once I run out though...
