auto top off system

Well I am finally going to fix an auto top off system like Melev shows how to make on his website. http://www.melevsreef.com/plumbing/auto_topoff.html

The only difference is mine is going to drip kalk water instead of pump water in. Does anyone see a problem with that? Basically I am going to use the aqua lifter but put a dripper at the end of the tubing. I should be getting the float switches next week. It looks really easy and I am going to use a 10 gallon trash can I bought from walmart, that will have a ro water supply connected to it using a float valve. I only question I might have is how will I know when I need to add lime to it?

Keep us posted. I am going to do something similar soon. I checked out all the info at Melevsreef quite awhile ago and I think that the aquahub stuff is a good option.

Ultimately I got the litermeter because it is better for my application.

Do you have experience using kalk? I have been using 2 part to supplement calc. and alk., but lately have been experimenting with dripping kalk.

I still have not decided if I am going to dose with kalk but I did set up my auto top off last night. Wow it was easy. It works like a charm. It cost like $60-$70 and a hour or so of work. think of the time I will save. I also talked to Mark (from the site linked in my first post) he didn't think it would be a good idea to use kalk water this way. If it got stuck on then it would really do some damage. OH well, back to the drawing board.

Dont do the kalk w/ the top off. I did and it was near catastophic! Had to take eveything out when 10 gallons of fully sat kalk water was released in... Just dose it or drip it in my opinion.

Thanks Reef-n-Chicago. I have decided to add a top off to my other tank as well. Now instead of working on my tank I can be enjoying it!
