Auto water changes

How do people with large tanks change water? I am thinking of having a separate 100 gal tank with water flowing through it on the system and have a RO unit fill 100 gal tank over it with a few power heads and all I would have to do is dump salt in and when I am ready turn a few valves. But is there a way to automate it? I am curious to what everyone does with there systems.
