Is there such a thing as a cheap autocad program. I would like to get one so I can design cool fish tanks, stands, hoods, and the like? If there is, where would I get one at?

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked it up and turbocad looks promising although some of its software can be kind of expensive too. That is the high end stuff. I don't need anything extremely fancy.

you can usually find old versions of AutoCad all over the web. Not the best idea but they work. Also you can usually go to a local office depot or officemax and they have a few cad programs , usually architectural, for arund 100 bucks.

I just keep an old version of AutoCAD at the house, I'm useing 2000 right now :)

CAD for fish tank stands?

I just draw something on a napkin and start cuttin!
They always seem to turn out ok......

I am running autocad 2007 right now... you can find downloads on most P2P type of networks... I'm not saying thats the right thing to do... I am lucky to need CAD for my job... so designing tanks, stands, skimmers, etc. is what I do when I'm bored at work... heheheee...

I've used sketchup before... its a great program and its free... I dont use it too much anymore, but I would recommend it, especially to someone jsut starting out... Good luck... and dont hesitate to ask any questions once you get your program...

I have a heck of a time intersecting objects and cutting holes in sketchup... frustrating would be an understatment. I must be spoiled by the interesection commands in Acad.

there are some things that frustrate me, too, like trying to do bends in plumbing, but I have never known another program, so I have nothing to compare it to...

BTW guys... before you go stealing Acad (or any software), you may want to consider that much of it phones home now.

There are a lot of good cheap cad packages for folks who want to dabble in cad.

Here is a well regarded one that seems to have a good following

If you want a bigger list I can provide it.

i got turbocad at a Half price books. I got the turbocad 11 deluxe with 3d render for 21 bucks, It is way cool. I would suggest looking around at places that buy back books dvd's, cds, and software. Good luck.

Randy... thats theft and not something that should be openly encouraged here (or anywhere for that matter). Stuff like that will get this whole thread locked or deleted. I need a new car you mind if I hotwire yours?

Not to mention the fact that many of the torrent trackers are being monitored by the BSA and the FEDS. There have been many busts as of late. It's a $10,000 fine per title if you do get busted.

Copies of AutoCad, even older versions, are going to be expensive. You could try looking on eBay for a used CAD program but as others had sugested, try Google Sketchup. It's free, easy to use and works well for tank design.

Stealing software is not something to be recommended... There have been busts as of lately in my area...

I like the idea of looking at used book stores... thats a suggestion.. or if you happen to be a student or a child of yours is a student... you can get student pricing on lots of software... jsut some more ideas... good luck...

Dictionary Definition of ‘Stealing’:
Theft (also known as stealing) is, in general, the wrongful taking of someone else's property without that person's willful consent. In law, it is usually the broadest term for a crime against property. It is a general term that encompasses offences such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, robbery, trespassing, shoplifting, intrusion, fraud (theft by deception), and sometimes criminal conversion. Legally, theft is generally considered to be synonymous with larceny.

No one has suggested anyone steal anything. That would be plain wrong.

It is illegal to reproduce anything you acquire without a license. Technically it is illegal to host a file to be uploaded, not necessarily downloading it. There is a very fine line when it comes to this subject. That’s why they haven't shut p2p programs down. 99.9% of the p2p graciously accept â€"œ not host. Circuit City now copies DVDs for people for monetary gain because they did the research and fit in that grey area.

Downloading is not stealing as of yet. Just a topic some like to gripe about. Graciously accepting something that was given is not stealing. No monetary gain and no theft. Don't come down on me, I didn't write the law, write your congressmen and senators.
