Automated Aquarium

@Tannersmith2000: thanks for the advice. I also work in the automation industry, mainly working with DCS but also PLCs. ps I like your choice of verse.

@iced98lx: thanks. I'm away only ebay to search for valves

As for the controller, I'm planning to use a more industrial unit that I can tailor for my specific needs.

A recent quote from GHL in their sponsor forum...

"Many of you are new to GHL and may not be aware the company does NOT just make controllers for aquariums for the USA, they are a global brand covering every corner of the globe for 15 years now. It also makes state of the art testing software and other software for the automotive industry. "

I have owned one for a couple years, and although it hasn't been without the occasional hiccup, I'm overall VERY impressed with the build quality and the way in which it is engineered. The main controller is like any other computer than can be opened up, boards replaced, expanded, etc. Parts can be sent to you and most things can be fixed at home requiring the least amount of downtime. The controller itself has also been 100% reliable for me which in the end is the most important thing when you are relying on it to safeguard hundreds to thousands of dollars in live stock and your home.

Customer service needs work, though. You'll find that's a pretty unanimous feeling.
They need to spend less time patting themselves on the back and more time listening to and being sympathetic to their customers, regardless of personal feelings.
They also need better documentation.

But for me, the build quality and reliability is key.
