Avast Marine Vibe / What Carbon Do You Use?

I bought an Avast Marine Vibe during their 4th of July sale and I'm experimenting with it now. For those of you that aren't sure what I'm talking about you can check out more information about this by looking here.

I want to run a mix of Carbon and GFO in the reactor to simplify maintenance for myself. I was planning to buy Carbon and GFO from BRS and mix them 1:1 and put them back in the containers so I could just scoop them and put them in when it was media replacement time.

I ran a test last night and even at 50 gph the ROX carbon I've used for years wanted to float.

So tell me. What carbon do you guys run?

TLF carbon from FAOIS, I use about 15tbsp every 2-4 weeks in my system. Why would you want to run carbon/GFO mix in the vibe?

Brightwell Carbonit or Korallen-Zueht is what I use. I run 2 cups passively in a bag (120g) changed monthly and "kneaded" daily. Doesn't seem to float, but not sure in a Vibe.

I think you should just give that vibe to me for my Zeo Rocks!! They won't float :)!

Why would you want to run carbon/GFO mix in the vibe?

I'm hoping to prevent channeling and keep the media performing at peak performance. I have always changed carbon every two weeks and GFO every monthZ. I'm hoping to run a blended mix and only change it monthly. I also figure this will help prevent bacteria film formation and move any detritus that gets captured through the reactor.

I talked to Avast and they sent me some mesh discs specific for carbon and gfo. They helped but I still had issues with carryover. I also bought two foams discs from Avast and that seems to be the ticket. I've got a foam disc on the bottom, topped by the mesh disc that Avast provided. At the VERY top of the reactor I'm running the foam disc to prevent any carryover.

This is working for now. I'm considering running different carbon to further help with the floating issue.

Also, I have always run the regular BRS GFO. It seems to grind itself down when i run the vibe. Does anyone know if the Hi-Capacity GFO is less prone to grinding down fines?
