Avg.octo lifespan?

I've been looking into keeping my first octo.Unfortunatly I'm finding most only live for about 12months..is this true? From anyone's experience,is there an octo that lives longer?Should I do more research? How do the octo's in the wild grow to be so big?
Thanx in advance!!!

I think the max lifespan for an octo maybe 4 years, but even that may be too long. They definatley don't live longer than 4Yrs.

Twelve months is about right if you're raising it from the egg. To be practical, buying a wild-caught octo it is reasonable to expect between one and 8 months.

There is one species of arctic octo that lives 6 years, however thinking of critters you can keep 8-12 months from the egg
