avoiding algae spores

Doing a complete tank scrub down & reset with new dead rock (bleached & acid bath). Probably way over thinking things at this point. I've read on RC a few times about how algae spores are everywhere around us all the time-- that green hair algae spores have been found in the air at 13,000 ft over Chicago etc. I've lost the battle with this particular algae, perhaps cladophoropsis. Impossible to beat, nothing eats it, I run gfo, feed minimally, test for po4 with Hanna etc etc. Anyway, should I not cycle my new dead rock for 3mos or so in the same room as my display tank. My plan is to do a switch over over a 5 day period-- where I bleach my tank & equip, clip all corals and dip them in like 3 separate fresh saltwater containers in hopes of eliminating any pieces/spores of this algae from the devil. I won't go into all the details of my plan. Was mostly just wondering if I should cycle the rock in a separate room too as an added step. I wish this was just regular old hair algae. You can see this algae is driving me crazy, it's my nemesis-- but I will win in the end.

like you said... I don't think it's possible to have a 100% algae free reef aquarium. Or... if it's algae free... it's sterile and not entirely healthy. (Like one of those early 70's marine aquariums with the white skeletons. Yuck!)
Aren't wild reefs made up of something like 90% algae?

Anyways... this is why I favor having as much biodiversity in my reef aquarium as possible. And low phosphates :)

It's just this one species of algae I'm trying to avoid. Hopefully it's not as advanced as airborne spore releasing as regular old green hair algae is:) You're right though Gary, no algae is unhealthy. I know a few TOTMers have stated they'd rather have a slightly dirty tank as far as sps coloration goes.
