Hi new to the hobby I was wondering what are the experiences with the Fire Shrimp. I heard they are shy unless you have a bonded/mated pair but even then they like to stay hidden. If that is the case is there another shrimp that will come out more, besides the Cleaner shrimp?
My aquarium will be a 29 gallon FOWLR & sump. Occupants will be a Bi Color Blenny, Royal Gramma, and a 3 Pajama Cardinals.
Thanks

Titles are all the same. you can put little symbols by them at the bottom of the page when making the thread.

My fire shrimp I never see unless feeding time. I see him to know he's alive but never to show off.. when company comes over I feed the tank just to get him out. Most of the time his antennas are hanging out of a little cave.

Scarlet cleaners are very active in comparison. Other than those most of the other shrimp will hide and stay hidden. Is there a reason why you don't want scarlet cleaner or is it just personal preference?

Mostly personal preference I haven't seen any Cleaner shrimp at my LFS yet. They do have Fire shrimp though that hang out in the open a lot probably because they have their own tank with no fish in it.

I have a pair that is out and about (5 years) but it takes a while for them to relax. (240 gallon tank)

I've got a pair of fire and a pair of scarlet cleaner shrimp in my 55g and the fire pair are the much more active of the 2 pairs. They are always out and about come right to the top of the tank to hand feed when I feed. When I kept single fire shrimp in the past they were a bit more reclusive.

So this might be one of those depends on the individual type of things? If so is there a way I can chose the ones that will be more outgoing.

It definitely helps when you get them in pairs. I hand feed my tank and my fire shrimp hang out in the half of the tank I always feed from so they've been trained be more social. I hand feed pellets and mysis to my shrimp, fish and nems. Scarlet cleaners are normally the more outgoing cleaner shrimp
