B.Friends 180gallon Wave Box

Well I started a thread awile ago when I picked up my tank but after the issue of my friend dropping it as we took it up the stairs I was set back from setting up my 180 gallon tank a few months while we fixed the tank that originally came form aquarium obsessed.

This 180 has been a undertaking say the less but there is finally light from the other end of the tunnel.

I will go over the Equipment list really quick.

Sump Info:
Octo - 2000 Skimmer ( Modded )
15 Gallon Refugium Built in the Sump
45 Gallon Sump
Unknown 1/2 Chiller Working on the make lol

Closed loop:
Sequence Dart for one side of the Closed loop and Another Added at a little later date for the other side of the tank.
The side panes have 2 1.5" Bulk heads that will give me the back and forth movement once I get the Other Dart Plumbed.

Lighting:
2 400watt single ended bulbs over run with HQI Ballasts
Supplement lighting is undecided?

Stand is a simple 2"by4" Stand that I will skin in Oak later.

Some Ideas I would like to throw at the masses?

1. Speed controller on a Sequence pump since I am going to run one for each side of the tank I want a wave motion so either I am going to run 2 OM or I will figure a way to come up with a voltage controller.

2.Also would like to see how many GPH every one is running through there sump/refugium

Well today I Did my first fresh water fill and had one leak on my input to my closed loop and another one on the 2" imput to my dart which I still think might be leaking we will see tommorow before work. I have used white plumbers tape and Pink plumbers tape no luck so far. Also being careful to not crack the housing. Just my update so far I will also post some more pics.

Well I got it filled up last night and found a few more leaks. Question how does everyone seal the threaded imputs to there sequence pumps. And I had some leaking in the 2" intake to my sequence dart. Any pointers on gluing large PVC I used the Medium Clear PVC Cement and Purple Primer.

Teflon tape has always worked for me on threaded PVC.

My Tank is from Aqaurium Obbsessed and the dimensions are 60" Long 36" Deep and 25" tall.

Also a little update as 4/17/07

I picked up another dart for my closed loop so now I will be running to Sequence Darts on m My closed Loop. Picked up 80 lbs of Med sized sand and Salt. So we are getting there, Also I ordered 3 Scd 80 Bulk Heads from Savko to finish my plumbing.

- I am decent with wood working not the best but I can learn anything.
I would like to see what other people would make my stand look like and a canopy. What wood, Color, Style Ect. I would love to see everyones imaginations working.

Actually I fixed it but it worked out ok. It was not as bad as it looked.
No leaks and so on. It still has a few scratches but I will work on those later.

Does that pump mounting cause any vibrational noises? I'm not a big fan of mounting external pumps with rigid plumbing.

Not at all the Pumps are rubber mounted to the base and to the tank~

Well its full again with fresh water and one of my closed loop pumps is running.

Reminds me of the Tsunami that Paul at Oceanmotions has on the back burner. That thing makes a wavebox look like a kid's bathtub toy.

A little different than your setup though, as he has a single pipe at each end and just one pump. Flow direction is controlled by a rotating drum similar to what is used in a 4-way. A speed controller dials in the drum speed. As the drum rotates water is sucked out one end while flowing into the other. Half a second later it reverses.

Up date 5-1-07

Today I fired up the return pump which would be my 3rd Sequence dart, It will feed my Chiller , Tank, Skimmer, Cal Reactor. Still need about 5 more gallons of RO Water and I should be good. I have the closed loops done after a reworking of plumbing. Also I started on the hood since my cat would not stay out of the water. So its 50 % done and my 400 20k Radium is in it for the time being. I am waiting on my 2 new Lumen Max 2s and Sunlight Electronic ballasts.
