B-Ionic question

So I got these 2 bottles used from Byron when a bunch of us helped him unload some tanks, they are about half full with liquid. I forgot to ask if they were already mixed with RODI or not, I've never used this stuff so I don't know. Thanks for the knowledge.

I used to use B-Ionic before I started automatic dosing of DIY solutions.

I don't know how you could tell if they were already diluted. Sure, measure the concentrations but how and with what?

I'd be conservative, say they haven't been used and still need dilution. Worse case you end up needing to dose more because it's not as concentrated.

Only bionic I ever used didn't need dilution. Are big jugs different?

Dilute a small portion and dose. Measure your alk before and after. See what happens.

Couldn't you just test a sample with a regular test kit to get a generalization on how concentrated it is. Then dose very very very cautiously to see whether or not more ml is needed etc... Its a pain but I feel its the only way. Good luck.

Thanks guys.

Grant and Ken yeah I'll just have to be super conservative at first.

John, the big jugs are concentrated and require diluting with RODI.

Jason, I don't think I can use my Red Sea test kit to test it can I? The solution in the jugs do not contain saltwater.

Good question. I thought a test kit would just test for that certain element, don't know if saltwater has to be present. I don't see why saltwater has to be added, you would just be adding more drops until it hits that certain color. May just take a long while since its concentrated. Again that's my thinking which is usually wrong LOL.

I believe Byron had said they were not diluted when he was finding a taker.
Of course when I go to weigh the bottles the scale needs new batteries, lol. But you might be right Luis one bottle did always weigh about 5lbs before changing to 7lbs, where's the spare batteries lol.

In my experience, if undiluted you will have solid precipitate at the bottom of the alk jug. If you shake it vigorously and hear the chunks rattling around it's definitely not diluted.

At room temp you should not have precipitate if it's diluted. I have a brand new bottle from Christmas in my living room at 70 degrees right now that has the solid at the bottom of the alk container. It's true that cold will increase precipitation, but you will have it at room temp when undiluted because the solution is over saturated before dilution.
