Baby Bangaii's

I came home from the meeting Saturday and while putting in a couple of new purchases in the tank, I saw a baby Bangaii Cardinal.

Later that evening, I found 2 more, but by Sunday morning I could only find one.

I ended up catching the little guy and putting him in a fuge.

Have any of you ever had any luck raising these? I don't have time to raise baby shrimp to feed. Was hoping that they might feed off of the pods in the fuge. There are thousands of pods moving around at nite.

yea the pods will be pretty good for it. Rember they are nocturnal. So make sure your fuge has an off cycle for the light.

I remember when Klaus had the baby Bangii's in his tank.

I do not have a timer on the fuge, but did turn the light off last nite. I have a small night lite above the fuge for night viewing, which I was hoping would help the little guy hunt for food.

So far so good, he is down there swimming around. I have not found any other survivors in the main tank though.

That is just cool Chad, see if you can get us some pics of the little guy. I have been wondering if I could possibly breed pep shrimp in my fuge.

I need a better camera to get a pic of him. My camera can't focus that well on my tank as it is, let alone something that small.

I raised a couple of babies last year to about the size of a dime and then unfortunately they got caught in the return pump and that was it. I have a baby right now living in my fuge he's been there since the last week of june. I don't feed him anything in particular just what comes down the over flow and when I feed rod's food or other frozen I squirt a bit to him down below. So far so good. I think their critical time is until they are about 3 weeks old and that is when the highest mortality is. Unfortunately while I was away last week one of my breeding pair died and I am not sure what he died of as I wasn't here when he died. I am not sure if the one remaining is the male or female but will try to introduce the baby into the main tank in a few months and see if they can make a go of it......They were breeding regularily every 8 weeks and probably it was the male that passed as they do seem to take the brunt of the breeding schedule as they don't eat while holding fry. He was always holding it seemed and it isn't always possible to save any of the fry, just lucky if you do. They usually spit them after lights out and you will have greater success than I did if you don't have 2 huge anemones in your tank right by the male's favorite hangout. Good luck Chad and if I can be of any help just let me know.

Well, the little one is now 8 days old. He seems to be doing fine in the fuge for now. If he lives, I was wanting to pair it up with another. Maybe if yours also make it to that age Lorna.
