I had a visitor over the other day who was looking at my tank and called me over to identify a small creature on the glass. Lo and behold, it was a tiny miniature baby nerite snail!
I have about 8 large nerite snails in my tank who lay eggs pretty regularly on the glass, but I understood that the eggs were unlikely to hatch and any resulting larvae would probably be skimmed/filtered out of the tank (I do have a protein skimmer). I haven't added any rock or anything lately that the little snail could have hitchhiked in on. Is this little nerite snail just one that hatched out from the eggs in the tank and happened to make it? How common is it for nerite snails to breed in saltwater tanks?
