Baby Snails and MP40

Constantly... baby snails are crawling in my damn MP40s underneath the magnet and it's making all kinds of noise. I'm constantly waking up at night, removing the wet side to clear the a$$holes out! Anyone have this issue and how did you solve it.

This is tilting me.

I've never had that happen in my many years of using MP40s. Is your spacer set correctly on the magnet? I can't imagine anything getting underneath the magnet, nor has it happened and I have had tons of baby snails and other critters floating around.

I'll look into setting the spacer. Thanks. It's friggin frustrating!

I called EcoTech, they said try the pads that adjusting the pin spacer won't do anything.

I don't see how the spacer would be helpful either...my spacer is on the outside of the tank if I remember correctly. Did they mean the foam covers? I keep them on both my mp40s ALL the time, have never had any livestock crawl in or under. Although my blenny has tried to stick his head in the front. Duma$$ fish.

If you aren't already using the foam covers, I would try them. I rinse mine in SW every week when I do my water change, though - they get funky.

I have a solution for your Blenney problem I'll take a photo when my lights are on.

Alright everyone so this ended up being my final solution. I got two new MP40 wet sides since I think the snail issue chewed up the insides a bit. Then, I added the pads but I cut 30% off of them so as they get clogged it does not reduce the flow to the pumps. My solution prevents the snails from getting in the pump because they get stuck in the pads. Let's see if this holds! If it does not, I have another idea I can add to this.

inventive solution, let us know how it works out.

I will. So far it's been 10 full days and only 1 time did a snail get in. This is ASTRONOMICALLY better than what it was before, which was 2x a day, and one time usually at 3am where it would wake my A$$ up. ARG!

Alright so this worked fairly well. Rarely have issues now! Just thought I'd follow up.
