Baby star fish?

Well i looked over at my 5.5 Zoo tank I have sitting on my desk, to be suprised to see this guy crawling up my glass!

Im assuming this is some sort of baby star fish that came in on one of my zoo frags?

If not, what is it?

It is and it will eat your coraline. I take them out of my tank when I see one.

um, i have had sand sifting starfish's in all my tanks....and it doesnt touch my coraline.

That is an asternia starfish . Harmless algae grazer . . .

Even experts can not easily identify this star from a picture. Size, color and number of arms are not usually diagnostic. I have these stars, they cause NO problems for me whatsoever. Some CAN be problems, keep an eye out...but this is not common at all considering the number who have them. Obviously, this one is cruising the glass, happily chowing down on surface biofilms, etc. There is a lot of "hype" about these stars, when very little, IMO, is warranted. If you see a problem, then OK...but most people have no problems at all.
