I used to have a 55 gallon reef tank for almost a year and a half. During a bad storm and being without power I lost it all. Was pretty horrifying to say the least. I decided not to redo it, but to give my freshwater angel's a better home. After a few weeks I decided I couldn't handle no saltwater. I wanted something small. I bought a 20 gallon long.

I used my rock from my last tank, bought new live sand and my petstore gave me free water out of their reef tanks. Now my question is, with already established water how does the cycle process work?

What kind of light can I get to be able to do corals? prefer soft. Right now I have a AquaticLife T5 HI...

Sorry about your earlier tank crash and good luck on the new one. I like the notion that each tank proceeds with its own cycle- that is, when your parameters are good after some weeks/months and you're on the winning side of the algae war.

Lighting choices are wide open. You might have good luck with some soft corals with the light you have now. A relatively cheap upgrade would be a single 10k 175k MH in a pendant reflector, maybe two- you could then keep just about anything in a tank that size.

Well.. the coral I really want I know some think its crazy but i love pulsing xenia.. I had lots of it in my old tank along with anthelia, but I did not like the anthelia after it took over my pulsing xenia and went out of control..
