Back in the game sort of.

well as for moving and things and trips coming up. my next real build is on hold still, so i couldnt pass up a sale on a 30g cube and stand (really 27g but doesnt sound as nice) my itch wont go away so i needed something to mess with anyways. it will be on the low end as far as lights and pumps but will be focused more on the scape and aesthetics and try and make one bad@$$ nano.

problem is i would like to do a drilled tank and sump to keep the look very clean. but the bottom of the tank space is only 19"x17" and the door opening is only 20.5" tall and 15" wide. so if any of you have any links or best ways to design a sump for this tank i would be greatly appreciative . i do have minds working on this but more wouldnt hurt. :celeb1:

Good to see your getting back in the game. I say just build a new stand. Itll probably give you more room to use a bigger sump.

thanks. well the tank should be 20"x20"x18" a bigger stand would look very weird, plus that was one of the main reasons i got the tank and stand for $150 including tax. people have these all the time theres got to be some way. Custom is fine, just havent seen much info around.

Go with a custom 17 long by 15X15. It will hold roughly 16 gallons. If you can remove a brace or the bottom/top of tank you can fit it in there. If not a 14 gallon biobube converted may fit.

yeah removing the bottom would be the only and easiest way. since i only started checking things out yesterday i did find a proflex model 1 sump that would squeak in just right, but then the chambers are weird and would barely have room for a skimmer. but it gave me a good layout to start with.

also drilling it with 2 diagonal holes and one for return, or should i get the glass holes kit it might look sleeker ??

I just drew this up really quick. You can fit an oceanic biocube nano skimmer in there and a small return pump.

thanks, found this from the recent NTOTM , but it would have to be 19"x16" plus whatever tall. and the bottom of my stand can be knocked out its stapled in.

Think you need the bubble traps? It dosent save tons of space but where inches count.... Maybe just one trap before the return? Just throwing out ideas.

Yeah prob Andy. maybe even just 4 baffles total might make a big difference. and middle refugium would take care of most bubbles i hope.

well im trying to calculate, a 19"long 16"wide by 15" tall sump with the baffles at around 8" tall would hold around 10gallons. any reason not to have the baffles a bit higher or the tallness of the tank a bit higher ? or is that about right the way it is calculated ?

Just wondering why you're calculating A 19X16 sump if the space you had is 19X17. You'll have to reduce it at least 1/16 of inch to ensure it fits in the stand. More like a 18
3/4 X 16 3/4. Or 18X16 if you want to use whole numbers.

IMO id use only 4 baffles total like Andy said. I forgot the other two on the sketch I drew up for you but you get the idea.

the space would actually be 16.5" max since there is a piece of wood inside the cabinet that i didnt see. its only on one side. at half an inch we will see but 16" min. And i appreciate the drawing for sure. and erik ill post a pic of just the tank on a new build thread. i should have titled this one differently. I will also be doing some youtube videos and im gonna show the costs of everything on those. Some guy did a cheap tank build video on there, has spent over a grand on a 40 breeder and not only does it look terrible non of the equipment is right.
