For those who may be interested. I just tested the 2300 watt generator and it ran my whole tank, including one of the two halides. And my furnace blower

I was very impressed, again it was only 189 bucks and its new. I read the run chart in the user guide, in temperatures under 85 degress, the engine can be run nonstop.

well i just gave in and bought a coleman 3250 generater at h-d
for $439.00 and it should run all 4 tanks the largest a 55 and a few lights and the gas furnace blower with just a bit to spare
and if it gets as cold as they think everything in the freezers can go out side as long as i can keep the dogs away from it.so i think the ony problem will be the well so i'm stocking up on water and keep my finger crossed.

You can get size 27 deep cycle batteries at Bass Pro. They throw them on sale for $39 every season normally they are $59. They are made by Deka which is one of the top manufacturers of marine batteries. An invertor for $30 and a couple of powerheads. You can also find the solar power rechargers at Bass pro for $29. Wire the battery to a lighter plug ($13) and plug in the invertor. Use the charger for a few hours with the invertor turned off and use a battery powered air pump to keep the water moving, they are $19 dollars at Bass Pro. They will wotk for 85 hours on 2 D cell batteries and push 7/8 Liter per minute of air. for longer battery times you can buy two marine deep cycle batteries and run them connected parallel. This gives the same voltage(12V) but inreases the capacity(longer run time).

Called around and the stores in OKC are getting more (they were sold out last night) so I drove to Tulsa and got a 3500W for $249 after my 20.00 mail in rebate. Also got the 20 dollar extended (2 year) pepboys replacement warrenty.

Went to Atwoods to pick up a small one, but they where out. I called Elk City and they had some 1000w ones for $129.99. Luckily Juli's dad already bought a big one for her trailer (where the tank is) so hopefully we will get it today!

ok, sounds like I might need to move my goby to the seahorse tank and maybe we can keep 1 tank ok by blowing in airline tubing or dropping water from cups. This is gonna suck. I have an inverter, but no batteries. suck suck suck.

We have no disaster recovery plan this weekend. Hopefully Ardmore power is OK. If we have a power outage, we might as well start frying up our fish for dinner.....

Ok, I gave in and got a 3500W generator at a Pep Boys in Dallas today. The SOB cost me $250. Now I am, strangely, almost HOPING for a power outage... Hmmnnn............... How bizarre!

Paul, while I'd be very happy for you that you'd get to use your new toy in a power outage, you'll forgive me for hoping we avoid it this time. Lowes was out of generators, so I settled for an inverter, and would rather not have to use it if at all possible. Maybe next weekend, I should have my act together by then.

And after all, I WILL at least take it out of the box tomorrow, crank it up, and give it a try. After all, I figure the WRONG time to learn how to use your new toy, um, uh, GENERATOR is during a power outage. And it'll be fun to play with.

i use a true sine wave ups system with 2200va from "ups for less" hooked up to one of my powerheads. this way if im gone and the power goes out, im good for several days running just one pump. i can hook up a heater and one powerhead and get around 2 days of backup. if the power is still not on i'll get out the generator. make sure to use a true sine wave ups. many powerheads wont work well with the systems that local store sell.
