I have a fairly shallow tank, but like it because it make it easy to arrange stuff, the only two drawbacks (which are pretty big) is a am limited by how far I can move something from the light, and the back wall of my aquarium is this awful blue color I despise.
So I thought about walling it up with rock, but don't want so much rock it covers all the space available in the tank. My idea is this, but I was wondering is someone might have a better one or there might be a simpler way.
To take a diffuser grid, like they use for frags, and attach with both epoxy putty and fishing line stones to cover the grid.Use stone small enough and flat enough (fiji rock for example) so it won't be too heavy, then build 12 inch tall sections (the depth of my tank, to fit against the back wall. Then with a second row of rock create a ledge with varying openings, and a final third row to create some random island extensions for coral fish etc. Right now, I am pretty restricted on space, and while I would like a larger tank, it's not in the budget and thought this might give me the room I need, the shade for corals that need less light, ledges for corals to set on, along with a nice rocky design to cover the horrid blue on the back of my aquarium. I figured I could use (in a few spots. Some larger pieces to create small "shelfs" for frags to sit on and eventually mount to. What I would attach the back wall with to the glass would be a combination of either suction cups and other rock pressed up against it to hold it upright and loops of fishing line to run over the edge to the back where I could attach with additional suction cups or simply weight it. I'm thinking the second shelf of rock would be enough to hold it up right so nothing else would be needed.
Has anyone else ever done anything like this? I have access to a lot of fiji rock so I have plenty to work with it's just I hate to do it if it isn't going to turn out right. But then don't know till I try huh? Any thoughts? Thanks
