Hi all,
Firstly to introduce myself, my name is Ryan, and I live in the UK.
I was once owned by a large 8ft reef aquarium. However, after adding an anemone from a LFS, I lost almost everything in 24 hours and as a result shut the tank down, vowing to never return to the slavery that is keeping a reef.
So, here I am, again :lolspin:
I have just bought an old Clearseal tank / stand, which was a 24x24x18 cracked tank. I took the stand and lid, and plasti-dipped gloss black, over the original oak finish. I then disposed of the tank and built a taller 24x24x36 Acrylic Tank.
Being a 24"x24" base, it doesn't sound that big, but it is actually about 260L (not filled to the rim).
I have added the TMC iLumenAir LED lighting
Which looks great, along with two koralia wave makers.
I have used 30Kg of dry "live rock" which I had left over from my old setup, but not sure on how this will cope due to the discolouration:
I have also purchased for now, a Fluvial U4 filter, I have modified the "Baskets" inside, so I have floss up the sides of the filter, and Chemi pure blue 11oz' In the middle. This is running 1000L/h so turns over the tank 4 times an hour, not ideal, but it is ok till I get my tunze comline filter which will do 2000 L/H.
I also have a TMC v2 300 Skimmer, which is rated upto 300L aquariums, this will also be changed for an internal Tunze comline skimmer which is far more efficient.
This brings the total tank turnover to around 6000 L/H, so about 23x water turnover per hour.
Finally there is the Bahamas oolite white live sand, in the bottom which looks stunning against the gloss black plastic dip stand.
I need to figure what livestock I am going to keep, all I know right now is there will definitely be a pair of Black and White Ocellaris Clownfish.
If anyone can give me an exact name for the anemone in this picture, it would also be appreciated (I believe its a purple tip Sebae anemone but not 100% sure)
Anyway, morale of the story, never say never!
