Hey everybody. My favia hasn't been doing to good. I figured it was because my bulbs need to be replaced.(They still need to be replace. Waiting on a shipment still) But today i noticed my bicolor angel nipping at it. :furious: He also was nipping at some others. I like him and would prefer not to get rid of him, but if thats what I have to do to save my favorite coral then so be it. I feed my fish 2 to three times a week. Do you think that if I increase my feeding that he might stop? Does anyone else have any experiences with this fish in a reef?

IMO, they are one of the 2 dwarfs when it comes to being reef safe, along with a Lemonpeel.

Not sure if feeding more will help, but it surely won't hurt -- 2-3 times a week isn't enough for a dwarf angel.

If you really like the angel then definitely try feeding a bit more frequently. I have a Potters and in the 3 months I have had it I have not seen it even look at a coral. I feed every day out of fear that if I don't it will start nipping. I don't feed a lot but feed a mixture of mysis, spirulina brine and Formula 1 and 2. Good luck I know how you must feel. I would want to part with my Potters and it will be a tough call between removing it or my corals.

So they are reef safe and if I'm feeding too little then maybe he will stop if I feed more.

Sorry, I type too fast. They both are one of the WORSE dwarfs when it comes to being reef safe.

Don't give up hope just yet. Formula 1 and 2 are flake foods made my Ocean Nutrition. 1 is more of an all-in-one flake while 2 is more geared towards herbivores.

i had it and sold it away it is not reef safe he was eating gorgonia, candy coral
with the okinawe goby my bigest mistake.

Uh-Oh. I think I'm probably going to get rid of him because I don't want worse problems in the future when he gets bigger and my tank is stocked more with corals.:worried:

Try feeding more often, and Insted of Formula 1 & 2, I'd use NLS (New Life Spectrum) pellets I personally like the Thera A the best.

I agree with toddrtrex. I wouldn't risk housing a bicolor angelfish in a reef containing lps, zoanthids, etc. I have seen bicolors in reefs before but these tanks were mostly soft coral reefs (toadstools, mushrooms, colts, etc). I would try one of the dwarf dwarf pygmy angels or maybe flame angel if you want to risk putting a Centropyge in a reef.

I have a Bicolor & love her. That being said, one of the riskier Centropyge for a reef. The bigger your tank is, with more corals can reduce damage..
But they will decimate Meaty LPS & Zoa's are a tasty snack. I harbor no illusions on that matter. Of course, they are also notoriously prone to dropping dead. So..
Not really a good choice in Dwarf Angel. CB would be better. C. argi (Cherub, Pygmy) would be MUCH better. But none are Reef Safe (Which is mostly in our heads, fish have different ideas than Reefkeepers!). White-tailed & Fisher's are some of the other "safer" Centropyge angels.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Bicolour or lemonpeel or eiblii + corals = disaster everytime.

Sorry

EDIT: 99% of the time, there is the occasional "angel", pun intended :)

This sucks! Im going to trade him in at the lfs tomorrow. maybe Ill try another one later and feed more but as for this one. He already has a taste for my favia.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good reef safe fish that is as beautiful as a bicolor or flame angel? I currently have a black percula, a kole tang, and an engineer goby. I want to add some colourful fish to my tank.

Not Really, I plan my corals around my fish now. I have a False Perc Clown that is decidely NOT "Reef Safe" so I don't give that much weight..
Try some of the Wrasses. Many beautiful, active fish. UNREAL colors, though not safe for some inverts..

Massman: You forgot the Keyhole ( C. ticibien) in your WORST Dwarf Angel list..

Matthew

How about getting some more liverock that is full of living crud. Like semi-cured liverock. Angels can graze on turf algae and little sponges all day long.

Guys,

Yesterday evening i add one bicolor angelfish in my 120 gallong full of SPS, LPS, Leather and different beautiful colors of Zoos.

I am to much scared,:eek2:what will happen once it started to eat polyps.:sad1:

My bad luck.

I think before to see the result i should :uzi::uzi::uzi::fish1::smokin:
