Bad luck with our 135g tank

This morning I noticed the overflow box making some noise like the tank needed topped off, but I just filled up the top-off bucket yesterday. I was trying to figure out what was up and *SQUISH* wet carpet around the tank.

After freaking out and turning off everything trying to figure out what was up, I realized that the tank itself was leaking. The stand was wet from end to end and the bottom tank trim was holding water. I couldn't find any signs that the leak was in one of the corners and running down, they were all dry, so it must be the bottom seam somewhere.

We had a 58g tank in the basement that we brought up and started syphoning water from the 135g into it, then we moved all corals and fish into it. All the rocks that had no corals were put in buckets and styrofoam pet store boxes.

After all livestock was out, I finished getting out all the water and putting towels around everything to soak up water and made it to work 2-1/2 hours late.

When we got home this evening, we got out the rest of the sand and dried up the tank and scraped out all the silicone everywhere. I'm going to reseal all seams tonight and we will fill 'er back up tomorrow morning.

All in all, it sucks but it could have been worse and everything seems to be doing allright. We've been wanting to rearrange a few things anyway.

Aw man, sorry to hear that Terry. I'll give you a call in the morning before I leave, I can swing by there and help out with whatever you need. I you guys aren't going to be able to make it, and you need some help, I'm sure that Kurt and Jackie won't wind postponing a little bit more.

Ahh man! That is not something you want to wake up to...ever!

It reminds me of the time we returned from a weekend trip to Chattanooga and found an inch of water on the lower side of our basement. Yes, from the 125 we were setting up. I had left the valve from the top-off dripping by accident. I had never been so happy we owned a wet-dry vac and a carpet shampooer in my life! The good news was that there was only fresh water in the tank at that time. Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you got the leak fixed and everything is okay. Good for you having such a good attitude, the know-how to handle an emergency, and the extra tank around! Post a pic of the new arrangement!
