Bad news on Thorite!!

We can no longer get thorite. This is what I was told today. BASF has stopped making it and the company I was ordering from can not find any. Sorry about the bad news. I still plan on doing the pillar project. I will just use some aquamend to bond some smaller rocks together. Chris

Great stuff is a good product for filling holes in walls and insulating walls, etc., but I don't think I would put that stuff in my reef tank. Here is the link to the MSDS:

The liquified petro gas may not completely vaporize during the curing process, contaminating your reef tank with hydrocarbons. I guess enough activated carbon may take care of the issue, but I still wouldnt recommend it.

Yea, when I try to do a pillar, I'm just gonna use rods and get the aquamend to glue rubble in places to fill in.

Well I'm going to try out Quikcrete Quikwall. They had some at Lowe's for around $15/50 lbs. According to one of those threads I had posted, it works the same as Thorite. It may be a month or two before I can get to this as a project, but I'd love a pillar or two in my tank :D

i just seen a thread where a guy used thorite to make his pillars. I pm'ed him and said they do sell it still but they quit making the quick setting thorite. the only thorite they sell now sets in 10-15 minutes which he said worked good still. he said it is $35-45 a bag but it goes a long way. anyways hes gonna pm me back thursday when he goes back to work where he has the receipt to give me the exact cost and the website he ordered it from. Ill post the info here just incase you guys are still looking for some.
