Badfish's 80 gallon build thread

Well the time has come, after two moves after selling house into apartment, then apartment to new house my tank took a devastating turn for the worse. Moving into apartment I lost thousands in sps, then from second move I lost just about everything. I have everything in a 40 gallon with a 40 gallon sump. I lost just about everything so I decided to sell the 120 and start fresh

After move my to do list has been so long I'm finally having some time to work on tank with very little time I have. I expect it to still be at least a month away but figured I'd start a thread to help get motivated

Tank is a deep blue 80 gallon RRR, bubble magus curve 5, probably 30 or 40 gallon dump, just ordered two AI HYDRA 26.

Tank stand is custom built pine using the kreg jig (best tool ever). I forgot to take pics of just the frame

Wood for frame

Pocket holes were used on frame

Skimmed with 1/4" plywood

1x4 premium pine used for top and bottom rail

1x3 premium pine used as the trim

Here is my previous build thread

Door construction

tongue and groove shaker style, still need to make some adjustments. First time doing this, got to love youtube

How's the tank coming along? How do you like the coverage of the lights? I just set up the same tank and my old lights don't cover the tank enough so just looking for other options.

Fast forward three months it's time to get this done. Life happened, literally, third son decided to show up almost two months early, but he's doing great. Finally got the project back on track and should be cycling tomorrow. Decided to take a day off during week while kids were in school to get some quality time in with tank.

My helper for the day

First time working with acrylic, start of 9 gallon ATO resevoir

Still need to build the permanent top but passed the overnight leak test

40 gallon sump

Start of controller compartment

Great setup and I like your controller compartment :D I'm in the middle of a build and doing the same idea can't wait to see when you finish it..keep the pics coming!

Very clean set up. I wish I would have thought of the side compartment when building mine :( That would be a lot easier than getting on all fours and adjusting my controls around sump plumbing LOL!!

I am doing my first sump. I have the same 40 gallon as you. Could you tell me the dimensions of the glass pieces you used to make it? I am especially interested in the depth. I love that you used dvd cases for your separation. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Shelley
