Baeya's Seahorse tank build...

My tank is a 65 gallon. I have two twin t5 bulb fixtures. I had the bulb stats on a sticky on my desktop but, my six year old grandson deleted them while doing his 'homework' on my computer. The bulbs are for a low light fresh water planted tank two day light, one blue (I just changed one of the day lights for a blue), one red/pink?, and will be fine for Seahorses.

My cycle is finally complete. Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 0. There was an AquaClear 110 on the tank now but, I've ordered and installed one of these. It's a Aquafuge2 PS DX with light. The reef store that I buy from recommended it. It's a HOB combination Refugium and Protein skimmer.

I ordered a RO/DI unit from BRS and it arrived a week ago. My son installed it in about a half hour. I forgot to buy the float for it so I'll order that tonight. This is the unit I bought...

The tank has 40 pounds of CaribSea Agra Alive Hawaiian Black sand and 32 pounds of dry rock. I'm using fish food to cycle.

The Seahorses will come from OceanRider.com. Before you can buy their tank bred/tank raised Seahorses you have to read (they call it classes) 430 pages of information sent to you and written by Pete Giwojna. I'm very pleased with the information provided by Pete and especially pleased that he is available via e-mail for any questions that are sent his way.

Here is a picture the morning after I set up the tank. 10-8-12

Seahorsesource.com will most likely be a lot cheaper, and, you won't find any better quality stock anywhere.

Thanks for the nice comments!
They did so well acclimating!
Thursdays are family day at my house and I have 3 grandchildren 6, 3 and 1. They were at the tank for quite awhile and the seahorses were right up front interacting with them! I handfed them each a mysis shrimp and they took it right away. They are looking very comfortable in the tank. Here are a couple more shots. I will get some more soon.

Yes, if you have a large enough tank.
Recommended size for the first pair of standard sized seahorses is usually 29/30g with an additional 15g required for each ADDITIONAL pair.
If you wish to investigate what you need to know for keeping seahorses, you can click the links at the BOTTOM of "My Thoughts on Seahorse Keeping" that have been written by experienced hobbyists and a commercial seahorse breeder.
