baffles

Where does one get baffles for a sump? Bill at aquahut just backed out of making one for me, so I am on my own. I will be using a 15 tall tank, as it is the only thing that fits under my 54 corner tank. Any other suggestions, such as glue, etc or links, appreciated.

You could have a glass shop cut glass to size for you and then silicone it in.

I just bought acrylic at home depot and cut to size and siliconed in when I did mine. I think there is special silicone that the tank builders use to glue acrylic to glass for their overflows - you might want to try to get your hands on some of that, so you know it will hold.

Do some searches on this website, you'll find everything you need to know if you are willing to put in the time.

Last sump I made with acrylic baffles , I just used aquarium sealant for the baffles and it held with no problem. I made a sump for my present tank with glass panels that I got at home depot. They have various sizes in stock.

Since it is a small sump volume, I believe that acyrlic will support that pressure. I do remember that I paid about $30 for 3 glass baffles for my 20g sump at the time. I then siliconed them in place. Ask the shop to smooth the edges (lack of the technical term)

Thanks everyone - Pyro - the shop cut them to size for you? What shop? I'm not that far from you.
Vyger - Home Depot had a size that was right with no cutting?

Just remember that from what I have heard bonding acrylic to glass with silicon will eventually fail. Supposedly acrylic & soilicon dont bond well

as far as i know the glass at homey will need to be cut to size. It's very easy to do, but it shouldn't cost you much to go to a glass shop and have them cut pieces to size for you if you dont want to cut it yourself. I've always bought my glass from patchouge plate glass, they're usually very cheap. but dont know if thats anywhere close to you.

Home Depot had cut glass sizes that could fit a 10 gal sump...you could use a glass cutter if need be..these glass baffles below in the 10gal were bought a HD.The 2 in the middle was one 12 in piece cut in half..

FWIW ...I used aquarium silicone on a 20 gal sump for the acrylic baffles and it held up for over a year with no problems till I tore the sump down to change the tank... actually there is not much pressure on the baffles in the sump .

i agree with vyger, theres not much pressure on the baffles. Even if the silicone doesn't adhere to the acrylic at all, the silicone will stick to the glass and trap the acrylic in place. And leaks are not an issue so i see no real problem with using acrylic. I dont see the advantage either tho. Glass is cheaper.
