Baking Bicarb

I am curious if there is anyway to estimate the amount of CO2 released when "desicating" baking soda? Could it be at harmful levels? My dog started flipping out (which is extremely unusual) when I began cooking the stuff for the 3-part Ca/Alk/Mg homemade recipes. I can't imagine any other sort of gas that would arise from cooking baking soda on aluminum foil that might cause such a reaction. It was the damndest thing...

Perhaps my dog is just a schizophrenic or my oven is haunted, but I doubt you can help out with those problems.

Sorry about the dog.

I can tell you exactly how much in total will be released (26% by weight of what you bake), but I don't know at what level it might cause a dog to go whacko. If you have a vent fan, you might try that next time.

There is a pretty fair amount of CO2 present in the baking soda. A 12 x 12 x 8 room might contain on the order of 14 grams of CO2 naturally. So baking a big tray may drive CO2 well above natural levels. When sniffed at high levels, the CO2 acidifies the nose and can irritate it.
