Baking Soda

Has anyone ever used baking soda to raise their ph? Its sodium bicarbonate so what would be the real harm? Just curious what everyone thinks....

I use it to raise my Alkalinity, although if not made into soda ash, by baking, it may have a temporary lowering affect on pH.

Low alkalinity can lead to a low pH condition. But, the most common cause of low pH is CO2 in your system/household atmosphere.

Recently, my tank has begun using up alkalinity like crazy. I've receive from BRS everything necessary for 2 part dosing, but I'm going away this week and don't want to start that till I'm back. For the last two weeks I've been using a combination of baking soda and Salifert All in One to supplement my Alk and Ca. The baking soda has been working very well for me, but do it in many small doses to avoid wild swings.

I'm using it for several years, it's good for me to keep my KH, less troublesome.
