Anyone ever have luck with Bali Mont corals? I can get a great deal on a superman colony. I have never been able to keep them for a long time without them dying off.

there are plenty of bali cultured montis that come in and do fine, i find that its hard to keep the colors on some of the colonies but I have no experience with the superman colonies they are currently importing... so your guess is as good as anyones... :) I would just worry about color loss primarily

I know of a few people that have bought several of the recent imports in hopes of getting a superman look-a-like, but everyone that they have gotten has lost color or gone south. If you're really after the "superman" then look for a piece of the original as they are pretty close in price to the wilds/aquacultureds, and sometimes you can even find a small frag pretty cheap.

IME It's like buying an wild colony... a crap shoot. Some times they live sometimes they die, some times they brown some times they change color completely and still look great. I never seen a wild caught superman look/fare as well as the aquacultured pieces.

P.S. You pretty much answered you own question..... :)

Its too bad. 80$ an inch for a frag from someone selling or 160$ for a softball sized colony. I have had great luck with the bali acro colonys but never any monts. I am sure that many fellow reefers purchase them then frag them out on ebay. I am not into making money I just want a nice size colony. I already have a frag thats about 2 years old thats a slow grower. The one I saw is a different. It has blue skin and red polyps. The one I have has blue polyps and red polyps. I just wanted to see if any other sps collectors had any luck or any advice.

The wild superman colonies are nothing like the original. Of course there is a colony of the real one out there but the ones that are being imported a lot now are not the same thing. If someone is selling frags of the maricultured ones for $80 then they are ripping people off. Those ones don't keep the same color. The real superman (heart pounding danae) is definatly worth ever penny of the $80. The fake ones are not even worth $100 for the colony (my opinion). If you see them in real life you will now what I mean.

I have a slow growing frag that has amazing blue and red. The polyps look amazing. thanks for the feed back on the wild colonys.
