Ballast opinion

Currently Im running an PFO M58 (probe start) that Ive had for 8 years,no prob.I need to up grade to a new ballast because of bulb choice issues. Possible PFO M58 (pulse start),Coralvue elec.dimmable etc.Would like to stay away from HQI,but would also like to have the option of the radium bulb if so desired.This is SE and is run with LB reflectors. Also who has the best selection of ballasts and prices.

If you want to run pulse start bulbs you will need a pulse start ballast.

The radium bulbs are pulse start. So you can get any type of an electronic ballast or a pulse start magnetic ballast (m153 I think). PFO used to make some nice ones as does sunlight supply etc. Electronic ballasts do normally underdrive the bulbs compared to magnetic, but are nice because the normally cost less use less electricity and produce less heat.

I would suggest the coralvue dimmable, it is nice to be able to adjust the ballast to adjust for bulb age and to tweak the color.
