Ballast Question

I am in the market to replace a ballast. I am running (2) 250w 14k Phoenix HQI bulbs on ReefoptixIII.

Looking at the Sunlight Supply Galaxy DUAL Eletronic Ballast
or the Sunlight Supply Blue Wave 7 250w Remote Ballast.

Have a 300g tank with mostly SPS and the ballasts will be approx 10' from the pendants. I am running them through a ACIII controller.

Suggestions and comments please......

Hi Jim,

The Blue Wave 7 ballast which has internal M80 magnetic ballasts inside of it is the spec. ballast for any DE 250w lamp. You will get the highest amount of PAR, most accurate color rendition the lamp was intended to look like, as well as the maximum amount of spectral and overall lamp life out of it. Having said that, it will be bigger, heavier, and draw a little more power than what the electronic will.

The electronic will put off less heat, is smaller, and draw less power, although the lamp will be slightly more blue, and have less overall light output.

When running DE 250's I always recommend using M80 magnetic ballasts, such as the Blue Wave 7, as long as power consumption and space is not an issue.

That is what I have currently and will stick with replacing the one with a lick one....
